PARENT COACHING

A Parent Coach provides a fresh perspective, serves as a sounding board, and gives encouragement. Parent Coaches are objective professionals who offer insight and resources to help provide solutions to challenging times. Building Blocks specializes in children from birth to six years of age. After the age of six, when the child has entered the formal school environment, teachers and other school professionals then naturally become the “coaches” who help parents continue to ensure their child enjoys healthy progress.

Building Blocks provides support and resources that parents need to be successful and effective parents. Parent Coaches help reduce the stress associated with parenting, but most important, they help parents enjoy their children -- and their lives as parents -- more completely.

Parent Coaching is often used as a preventive measure to halt undesirable habits or behaviors before they become entrenched, making the intervention a quicker and less-involved experience.

Many people have relied on Parent Coaching after the birth of an infant for advice on getting their baby to sleep through the night, scheduling, and normal development reassurance. This represents the ideal situation, as the Parent Coach can then follow the child from early infancy up to school age.

Initial Consultation

This provides the opportunity for Building Blocks to meet with and observe your child to gain an understanding of you and your child’s interactions and your child’s personality. This is also an appropriate time to discuss your goals and a plan of action.

The initial consultation will take place in your home and last for about two and a half hours. If schedules permit, it would be ideal for both parents to participate in the initial consultation. Building Blocks is available for consultations anywhere in the United States.

Follow-up In-home Consultations

Quarterly follow-up in-home consultations are recommended to reassess the goals and plan of action. This also provides more opportunities to observe parent-child interactions and provide additional feedback.

Home consultations serve a variety of purposes, from allowing for further discussions or clarification around challenging situations to engaging in conversation about questions that may arise, such as searching for and selecting a nanny. Consulting with a Building Blocks professional who knows your child and understands your parenting style can be extremely helpful when you are reviewing applications and résumés to select a nanny or caregiver.
